There were no apples left for staff at The Arnewood School when students enjoyed a special day munching on the fruit. The free apple day was part of Healthy Week which included drop in clinics for staff and students, and presentations from visiting medical experts.
New Milton Junior & Infants, Tiptoe Primary, Hordle Primary and Ashley Junior & Infants were also taking part in Healthy Week, so Arnewood head Chris Hummerstone abandoned the warmth of his car and cycled to each to see each of their activities.
Sports leaders from Arnewood had been visiting the primaries throughout the week.
Hordle GP Dr. Paul Campbell held a lunchtime clinic for Arnewood staff, while students could pop in and talk about emotional health on a different day. Students also discovered about disability, fitness and stress management. They also presented £474 to the juvenile diabetes charity JDRF.
“All of the schools in New Milton were working together for Healthy Week to encourage our staff and our students to discover new ways of improving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle and state of mind,” said Mr Hummerstone, Headteacher at The Arnewood School. “Physical and emotional health depend on each other. Instead of just teaching them these things, the aim of the week was to inspire them.”
