Y8 Pathways Evening
January 25 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
You may be aware that to offer students the best opportunities with their GCSE qualifications we now run a three year Key Stage 4. This allows students a significantly greater amount of time to study and attain high qualifications in subjects that they enjoy. Students are currently thinking about which subjects they wish to study, and to support them in this they are being given a range of opportunities including mentoring by their tutors or head of year, meetings with our specialist Careers Advisor, Mrs Bennett and time during their PSHE lessons. There are also a range of resources available to help them, which can be found on our Firefly website under the ‘Careers’ section of the ‘Browse Site’ menu.
As part of this process, we would like to ensure you are fully aware of the options process your child will be going through, as well as the changes that have occurred to qualifications over the last few years. I would therefore like to invite you to our Pathways evening on Thursday 25th January, 2018. This will start at 6.30pm in the main hall at Arnewood School, and will involve a short presentation regarding the new qualifications, how students will choose and inform us of the subjects they wish to study at GCSE and what can be done to support them with these choices.
Parents and students will then be given the opportunity to speak with subject teachers about the different qualifications offered and how they are examined, as well as speaking to the Careers Advisor, Mrs Bennett. The year 8 tutors will also be available should you have any questions.
Students will have had the options process explained to them earlier that day, as well as being given a booklet detailing the different courses offered. I would recommend bringing this booklet to the evening as it will help direct you to the members of staff you may like to speak to.
Should you wish to ask any questions before the evening, please do not hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
