BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sound Engineering

The BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sound Engineering syllabus followed and outlined below is from Edexcel.

This is a two year course which students must fully complete.

Mandatory Units:

2: Studio Recording Techniques; 6: DAW Production

Optional Units (students to choose from):

1: Live Sound; 13: Mixing and Mastering Techniques; 14: Studio Design

and Acoustics; 18: Working as a Production Team

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade 5 and above is preferable and should include Music.

Examination arrangements and weightings

Mandatory Units:

1 unit externally marked 33% of final grade

1 unit internally marked and externally verified 16% of final grade

Optional Units:

3 units internally marked and externally verified 50% of final grade

Recommended support materials and revision guides

Students will use Edexcel Student Guides specifically written for this syllabus.

What can I do after I’ve completed the course?

Specific music technology careers could include work as a sound engineer, record producer, or teacher. Other jobs in the music profession include working in the theatre, TV, film industry, recording studios, music performing, music research, and music therapy.
