Drama and Theatre AS/A Level

> AS Component 1: Exploration of Drama and Theatre

A group performance of an extract from a play and the performance of a monologue or duologue from a different text. Performances are supported with a portfolio which analyses and evaluates the process of creating and developing your own live theatrical work and the effectiveness of the outcome.

> AS Component 2: Theatre Makers in Practice

Written examination based on a live theatre performance you have seen and the practical exploration of a play.

> A2 Component 1: Devising

A devised group performance with supporting portfolio which analyses and evaluates the process of creating and developing your own live theatrical work and the effectiveness of the outcome.

> A2 Component 2: Text in Performance

A group performance of a key extract from a play you have studied and the performance of a monologue or duologue from a different text.

> A2 Component 3: Theatre Makers in Practice

Written examination based on a live theatre performance you have seen and two complete plays you have studied.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade 5 and above, preferably and including Drama.

Theatre trips

Students will be expected to see as much live theatre as they can. A number of theatre trips will be organised for the students and these will be an important part of the course.

Examination arrangements and weightings

AS level: Component 1 is a portfolio (30% of AS) a group performance (20%) and a monologue or duologue (10%).

Component 2 is a 1hour 45 minute written exam (40%).

A2 level: Component 1 is a devised performance (10%) with a supporting portfolio (30%).

Component 2 is a scripted group performance and a scripted monologue (20%).

Component 3 is a written exam (40%).

Careers

Students completing this course will have a thorough understanding of Drama and Theatre, highly toned analytical and creative skills and an ability to communicate effectively with others. These skills would prove beneficial in careers in the theatre as well as in other careers where communication skills are highly prized.
