Art KS3

  • To promote an interest in and encourage active engagement in the visual arts.
  • To develop an awareness of art, culture and history through the study of artists, craftspeople and designers.
  • To equip the students with the knowledge and the skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
  • To become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design technique.
  • To be able to evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design.


Year 7

  • Baseline assessment looking at illustrator Brian Wildsmith and colour theory
  • Portraiture – responding to artists such as Julien Opie and Hattie Stewart
  • India – The festival of light. Pattern, polyboard printing and clay diyas
  • Abstract Cells – responding to abstract artists such as Kandinsky through felt making and stitch.

Key assessment details:

Students will be assessed regularly using ongoing assessment during lessons as well as through homework tasks. There will be formal assessment points during the year where the students will be tested in the four skill areas of art history, record, develop and final response.
