Construction BTEC/Materials Technical Award KS4

  • To promote an interest in and encourage active engagement in learning about construction, material knowledge and skills.
  • To provide students with opportunities to link education and the world of work, in engaging, relevant and practical ways
  • To enable students to develop transferable skills, including working with others, problem solving and independent study

  • Carry out series of small practical tasks to develop and demonstrate competence in core practical skills, recorded in a portfolio.
  • A larger single make project showcasing the skills developed in year 1. This will include planning, testing, and evaluating.
  • The application of science and mathematics in construction
  • Evaluate the work of the construction industry.
  • A practical construction unit – currently brickwork and blockwork. Understand the materials and equipment used and develop practical skills using safe techniques.
  • A materials examination, including multiple choice questions, short answer and extended response questions.
  • Consider a client’s needs and develop a design brief for a low rise building
  • A construction examination, including performance requirements, construction methods and techniques of sub-structure and super-structures of low rise buildings
  • Produce a range of sketch ideas to meet the requirement of a client’s brief.
