About Ace Alliance
The ACE Teaching School Alliance provides access to SLE’S (Specialist Leaders in Education) and LLE’s (Local Leaders in Education). SLE’s are middle or senior leaders in alliance schools with capacity and commitment to school to school outreach work, directly supporting other leaders by applying their specialist knowledge and expertise, and so improving outcomes for children.
We currently have SLE’s with both secondary and primary expertise, details can be seen below.
- Teaching and Learning
Paul is a History SLE, formerly an Advanced Skills Teacher for Hampshire . He has led the induction of Newly Qualified Teachers across the county and has worked with universities and the Historical Association. Paul’s work with Hampshire has been highlighted as an example of outstanding practice by Ofsted and he has had work published in national publications. Since 2013, Paul has continued to promote the sharing of best practice across departments in order to improve teaching and learning. He also has oversight of Gifted and Talented provision and the school’s Pupil Premium strategy. More recently he has also been Lead Subject Tutor for History as part of the Bournemouth and Poole Secondary Training Partnership.
Paul is an SLE for eLearning and has been working with 1:1 devices for 11 years, initially with laptops and netbooks, but more recently with iPads. This has involved overseeing changes to schemes of work, training staff and working with technical staff. Paul has supported students in using their devices, and has a team of Digital Leaders who help teachers, students and parents to get the most from their iPads. Paul has organised TeachMeets and spoken around the country on issues concerning eLearning and eSafety. He blogs at learningwithtablets.com, manages rsrevision.com and is @Emecz on Twitter.
Sally’s SLE accreditation is for Mathematics and I.T.T. Sally has been teaching in the New Forest for 17 years and is currently Maths manager and a teacher at Hordle Primary School. She has over 10 years’ experience as a Maths manager, significantly improving standards through development of assessment, planning and teaching and learning. Sally has delivered Maths training for South Coast SCITT as well as mentored trainee teachers and NQTs.
Dr Isabelle Parkes
- Science (Physics)

Isabelle is an SLE for Science (particularly Physics). She has taught Science for fourteen years and has been a member of the Hampshire Leading Science Teacher Network for the last ten, developing and sharing classroom and leadership practice across Hampshire schools. Isabelle is actively involved in classroom research and has particular interests in the use of Mathematics in Science, in strategies to encourage students to reflect more deeply about their learning, and in developing the quality of written communication. Isabelle has led workshops at the Hampshire Heads of Science Conferences and chaired County Network groups. She runs sessions for non-specialist physicists for Hampshire and for the Institute of Physics. On a one to one basis, she coaches classroom teachers and Heads of Department.

Sheila has been School Business Manager at Hordle CE Primary School since 1999. Previously, she was Associate Practice Manager for 10 years in a leading firm of architects in London employing 100 members of staff. As a CSBM, part qualified ACCA and having a commercial background, Sheila has the experience to work with both schools and academies. Her key areas of expertise are Finance, Grant Bidding, Projects and Contractor Management, Health & Safety, Sustainability, Safeguarding and Human Resources. Sheila has supported admin teams beyond her own school and is keen to share her expertise with other schools and academies.

Lou Trim is Deputy Head Teacher and English Leader at Hordle CE Primary School, class teacher and NQT Manager. She has taught in Hampshire for over sixteen years, teaching all ages in the primary phase and specialising in leading the English curriculum. In her extended role with the Local Authority. Lou works as a leading English teacher, offering whole school In Service training, direct classroom support, modelled lessons and support with subject leadership. In addition, she has worked with a range of Local Authority departments in embedding Literacy in the wider curriculum. She is a trained coach and able to support middle leader programmes as part of the Teaching School’s network.

Sabine is an SLE for G&T and has led the development of provision for gifted and talented students at her school for the past 10 years, working closely with the local authority and a cluster of local schools. As part of her role in her current position as Assistant Headteacher, Sabine is leading, monitoring and supporting the quality of teaching and learning across the whole school. Sabine has been leading a variety of working parties and research projects as well as delivering training sessions at Southampton University (PGCE department) and to Hampshire secondary schools.
Specialist Areas: National Leader for Education – Primary Leadership
Fiona has been a headteacher for 17 years. She is also an NLE and Professional Partner working alongside headteachers, schools and governing bodies in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. In addition to her NLE work she also works for Hampshire Local Authority as an Associate Primary Phase Inspector and Winchester University running courses for aspiring leaders.
Fiona has been the headteacher of two very different primary schools for the past 17 years. Her time in headship has developed expertise and understanding of school improvement issues across the breadth of school categorisation. Specific experiences include the opening and running school based nursery provision, coaching and leadership in faith schools.
