Dr Noel Moran

It is with great sadness we advise the school community of the death of Dr Noel Moran who had a long and distinguished career at the school.

There will be many in New Milton who were taught by Dr Moran and some who will consider him significant in advancing their later occupation in scientific research. This includes those he coached for their university entrance including to Oxford or Cambridge.

Dr Moran worked at The Arnewood School between 1983 and 2012 and was form tutor and science teacher to many in the school’s community. Dr Moran’s greatest impact came possibly as Head of Science. Although chemistry was his passion, we was a strong advocate of scientific enquiry and a student centred approach to teaching. Dr Moran was a highly dedicated teacher and always always saw the best in people. He advocated qualifications as giving students choice to shape their lives as they wanted.

In retirement he regularly coached A Level students and was generous in sharing his professional knowledge and experience with colleagues. A charming man, Dr Moran is fondly remembered by his former colleagues for his mercurial spirit, warm wit, and loyal friendship.

A funeral mass for family and friends will take place on Friday 3rd February. Donations, rather than flowers, will be directed to Royal Bournemouth Hospital by University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity. These can be given via cheque to A V Ridout Funeral Directors in Highcliffe, or directly to the charity via this link: https://www.uhdcharity.org/donate/ .

Dr Noel Moran is survived by his wife and two daughters, both alumni of The Arnewood School. We offer our sincere condolences and sympathy.
