World book day promises to by a fun celebration of all things reading this year at The Arnewood School. There is an array of activities planned for Thursday 7th March. All staff and students are invited to drees up as a character from a book for the day. Donations will go towards the canon and funding reading initiatives across the school.
Thanks to Mrs Anderson and Mrs Atkins there are several activities as tasks in firefly for students, a “book treasure hunt’, a book ‘tasting’ session at lunchtime in the library and a competition where students design a character on a wooden spoon to add to the week’s entertainments.
For the ‘book treasure hunt’, all staff will be given mini book covers to attach to their lanyards and all week students will have to ‘collect’ the books and which staff have them. There will be a prize for the student who collects the most.
We are going to read “story in a day’ again this year. A story will be divided into five chunks and read to classes in stages throughout the day. Eventually students will hear the whole story across all 5 periods.
Staff will be taking park in a “decorate your door’ competition based on a book theme, some staff have already completed some fantastic creations.
Book tokens will be distributed to all students in aid of raising the profile of reading across the entire school.
